Help for Multi-Chart page

1. Overview

The Multi-Chart page contains a chart with up to 10 components plotted (individual components, system totals, and/or basket totals), plus a reference line. A sample chart is shown below. The chart page includes a Format control bar which lets you change the Scaling, Years, or Reference Line and redisplay the chart.

You select the components to be included on the chart from the Summary Results display on the Results page before you launch the multi-chart. There, you can change the check-boxes in the "Multi Chart" column to select the components to be charted; the first 10 checked components will be displayed on the chart. If the basket total is checked, it will be plotted too (it does not count toward the 10-component limit).

With modern browsers you should be able to select different combinations of components to be charted (and different options on the Preferences bar) without having to save the basket, but with older browsers you will have to save the basket for each different combination.

2. Chart format control bar

This bar provides controls which you can use to select the Scaling, Years, and the slope of the Reference Line. When the basket total is shown, Percentage scaling may produce an easier-to-read chart, because the plots are more likely to be about the same height. Note that the Scaling selection determines the units for the Reference Line, so the slope of the Reference Line will probably have to be changed when the Scaling is changed.

3. Title

The chart title indicates the name of the basket, and the User account size. The User account size is used to calculate percentage values for the basket total.

4. The plots

The chart can contain many different plots. To help you distinguish the different plots, each plot has a unique combination of line color, mark shape, mark fill color, and line style (solid or dotted). If the chart is printed in black and white, it should still be possible to distinguish the different plots. The pattern used is as follows:

5. Axis scales and labels

The X-axis (time scale) has one grid-line per month, and is labelled with year and month, e.g. "04-May". The Y-axis (cumulative profit or loss) has relatively fewer grid-lines, and is labelled in either $K or percent (according to your "Scaling" selection).

6. Legend

The legend is displayed at the bottom of the chart. There is one entry for each component on the chart. Each entry shows the "mark" which is used to distinguish the plot, plus the name of the component.
